안녕하세요! 이번에는 저의 소소한 발걸음, 거제도 여행에 대해 이야기 하고자 합니다. 거제도는 우리나라에서 두 번째로 큰 섬이자 아름다운 자연경관을 지니고 있으며, 한국 전쟁 당시 포로수용소가 설치되었던 역사적 지역이기도 합니다. 이에, 저희가 다녀온 거제도의 2박3일 소소한 발걸음을 통해 구독자 분들께 거제의 아름다움을 간접적으로나마 전달해 드리고자 합니다.

🗺️ 거제도는 어떤 곳일까요?
거제도는 경상남도 남해안에 위치한 우리나라에서 제주도 다음으로 큰 섬입니다. 동쪽으로는 부산 가덕도와 거가대교로, 서쪽으로는 통영시와 신거제대교 및 거제대교로 연결되어 육지와의 접근성이 좋습니다.
2025년 현재 거제시의 인구는 약 23만 명 수준을 유지하고 있습니다. 바다와 함께한 탓에 조선업과 함께 성장한 지역이며, 최근에는 아름다운 자연환경을 바탕으로 한 관광 도시로서의 면모도 강화하고 있습니다.
주요 관광지로는 바다의 금강산이라 불리는 해금강, 이국적인 풍경의 해상 식물원 외도 보타니아, 시원한 바닷바람과 풍차가 아름다운 바람의 언덕, 검은 몽돌이 파도에 쓸리는 소리가 매력적인 학동흑진주몽돌해변이 유명합니다. 또한, 한국전쟁의 아픔을 간직한 포로수용소 유적공원, 개인이 오랜 시간 돌을 쌓아 만든 유럽풍 성곽 매미성, 그리고 최근에는 거제 파노라마 케이블카와 거제 식물원 등이 새로운 명소로 떠오르며 사계절 많은 관광객의 발길을 끌고 있습니다.
📜 거제도가 품었던 역사적 발자취(옥포해전과 포로수용소)
거제도를 여행하다 보면 곳곳에서 임진왜란의 흔적을 발견할 수 있는데요. 그중에서도 옥포해전은 빼놓을 수 없는 역사적 사건입니다 1592년, 충무공 이순신 장군이 이끄는 조선 수군이 일본 수군을 상대로 첫 승리를 거둔 역사적 장소가 바로 거제 옥포 앞바다입니다. 이 승리는 연패하던 조선에 큰 용기를 주었고, 이후 임진왜란에 있어 조선 수군의 승리를 이끄는 중요한 계기가 되었습니다. 이를 기념하기 위한 공원이 바로 옥포대첩기념공원입니다.
또한 한국전쟁 당시 가장 큰 규모의 포로수용소가 설치되어 전쟁의 아픔을 간직하고 있는 역사적으로 의미있는 지역이기도 합니다.
🚗 [2박 3일] 거제도에서의 소소한 발걸음
저는 거제 소노캄에 숙소를 잡고 2박3일 동안 숙소 앞바다, 몽돌해변, 파노라마 케이블카와 거제식물원을 다녀왔습니다. 지금부터 한걸음 한걸음 가보도록 하겠습니다.
[1일차에서 2일차]
🏨 거제 소노캄: 편안한 휴식의 시작 . 저희의 거제 숙소는 거제 소노캄이었습니다. 거제 여행에 있어 인기가 있는 숙소라 몇번의 시도 끝에 예약을 할 수 있었으며, 1일차 저녁에 도착한 터라 첫날에는 간단한 식사와 휴식으로 마무리 한뒤, 2일차 아침을 맞이하였습니다. 리조트를 둘러보니 1층과 지하에는 카페와 놀이시설 및 다양한 편의시설이 갖춰져 있었으며, 리조트 앞 바닷가에는 요트 계류장과 운치있는 카페, 그리고 주변을 둘러볼 수 있는 바다와 맞닿은 산책길이 조성돼 있어 아침 나절을 즐겁게 보낼 수 있었습니다. 특히 리조트 앞 요트계류장의 바다와 산책길은 맑은 바닷물과 빛나는 윤슬로 더 없이 아름다운 풍경을 자아냈습니다.
🍙 톳김밥: 드디어 맛보는 거제의 별미 거제에 가기 전부터 꼭 맛보고 싶었던 김밥이 있습니다. 바로 톳김밥. 여러 톳김밥 전문식당이 있다고 하는데 저는 이전부터 방문해 보고 싶었던 쌤김밥의 톳김밥을 맛보기로 하였습니다. 둘째날 아침 일찍 일어나 아들과 함께 소노캄 앞바다를 둘러본 후 쌤김밥 오픈시간 전에 식당을 방문하여 미리 번호표를 받은 덕에 어렵지 않게 톳김밥을 사들 수 있었습니다. 과연 어떠한 맛일까 궁금한 마음으로 숙소로 돌아와 가족들과 함께 맛본 톳김밥은...
정말 거제도와 같은 곳에서만 맛볼 수 있는 김밥이었습니다. 김밥이 터질 듯 자리한 톳의 양과, 입안에서 느껴지는 톳의 아삭한 식감을 맛보니 왜 거제를 방문하면 꼭 먹어보라고 하는지 알 수 있었습니다. 거제도에 머무는 동안 다른 식당의 톳김밥도 먹어봤는데 약간의 맛 차이는 있었지만 풍부한 톳의 식감과 맛은 한결같았습니다.
🍩 바삭꽈배기: 달콤 바삭한 유혹 이제 본격적인 거제 여행에 나설 터, 맛있는 톳김밥으로 아침을 채웠지만, 이동 중 시장기가 돌 것에 대비하여 저희는 리조트 인근의 바삭꽈배기를 방문하여 꽈배기 두봉지를 구입하였습니다. 검색을 해보니 나름 맛있다는 평이 상당한 꽈배기였습니다. 맛있다고 하지만 꽈배기가 거기서 거기겠지란 생각으로 차에 탑승한 후, 십분도 지나지 않아 저희 가족은 빈 꽈배기 봉지를 안게 되었습니다. 아, 이렇게 고소하고 맛있는줄 알았으면 좀 더 사올걸...이란 후회로 입맛을 다시며 저희는 이동을 시작했습니다.
🏖️ 거제몽돌해변: 동글동글 몽돌과 파도 소리의 하모니 파노라마 케이블카를 탑승하기 위해 이동하던 중 우측 해변에 나타난 몽돌해변. 거제도에 왔는데 거제도의 명물인 몽돌해변을 지나칠 수는 없다는 생각에 바로 하차! 몽돌해변으로 발걸음을 옮겼습니다.
이름 그대로 일반적인 모래사장과 달리 까맣고 매끄러운 몽돌들이 해변을 가득 메우고 있는 광경은 정말 이국적이더군요. 파도 소리 역시 일반 모래사장에서의 소리와 달리 몽돌 구르는 소리가 나는듯 하여 듣기 좋았습니다.
🚠 거제파노라마케이블카와 전망대: 하늘에서 바라보는 거제의 절경 드디어 도착한 파노라마 케이블카 탑승장. 일반 캐빈과 크리스탈 캐빈의 두 종류 케이블카가 있기에 저희는 크리스탈 캐빈을 예매했습니다. 두 케이블카의 차이가 무엇이길래...라는 궁금증도 잠시, 바로 도착한 크리스탈 캐빈은 바닥이 뚫려 있는듯 투명한 바닥의 케이블카였습니다. 캐빈에 올라타 무서움을 느끼는 것도 잠시, 투명한 바닥으로 보이는 풍경은 아찔하기도 하고 아름답기도 한 진기한 풍경이었습니다. 발을 모아 사진도 찍고 주변의 아름다운 풍경을 열심히 눈에 담고 있기를 오분여, 드디어 도착한 전망대에서 바라본 거제의 바다는 절경 그 자체였습니다. 처음에는 흐린 날씨 탓에 구름이 잔뜩 끼어 흐릿한 바다만을 보다 가는건 아닌가 하는 마음이었으나, 세차게 불어오는 바람으로 우리의 시선을 가리던 구름이 거둬진 순간...
정말 와! 라는 감탄사만 나올 정도로 파랗게 빛나는 하늘과 바다가 우리 앞에 펼쳐졌습니다.
이곳이 거제 앞바다구나.... 정말 아름다운 풍경이었습니다.
🐟 거제 웅아횟집: 싱싱함이 살아있는 저녁 만찬 윤슬전망대의 아름다운 풍경을 뒤로 하고 거제에서의 2일차 저녁을 맞이한 우리는 거제에 왔으니 맛있는 회집을 가봐야 겠다는 생각으로 식당을 검색하던 중 마침 숙소에서 멀지 않은 곳에 있는 웅아회집이라는 식당을 찾을 수 있었습니다. 지도와 포털을 보니 횟감의 신선도와 맛에 대한 평이 좋은 식당이었기에 저희는 주저 없이 웅아회집을 방문하였고 저녁으로 맞이한 회와 해산물들은 저희의 기대를 저버리지 않고 거제 앞바다의 풍미와 맛을 고스란히 전해주었습니다.
아...배부르다....
[3일차]
🌿 거제식물원 (정글돔): 이국적인 초록의 세계로 풍덩! 이제 거제를 떠날 3일차가 밝아왔습니다. 3일차의 아침은? 가족 모두의 성화에 따라 한번 더 톳김밥을 먹기로 했습니다. 이번에 방문한 식당은 쌤김밥 인근의 진이네 분식점으로 작은 규모의 식당이었으나 식당 내부에 걸려있는 생활의 달인 출연 현수막에 빛나는 자부심과 포스를 느낄 수 있었습니다. 그리고 먹어본 톳김밥 역시 거제도에서만 맛볼 수 있는 풍부한 톳의 맛과 식감이 고스란히 전해지더군요.
그리고 소노캄과의 이별이 아쉬워 이곳 저곳을 둘러본 후 거제 식물원으로 향했습니다.
소노캄에서 약 25분을 달려 도착한 거제 식물원은 멋진 돔 형태의 외관으로 우리의 시선을 잡아끌었습니다. 그리고 들어선 내부에는 잘 꾸며진 이동로를 통해 돔형태의 유리로부터 들어오는 햇살을 온전히 받으며 다양한 식물군이 우리를 반기고 있었습니다. 거제 식물원은 국내 최대 규모의 돔형 열대 온실로써 식물원 중심의 전망대에 올라 식물원을 바라보면 마치 정글에 들어와 있는 듯한 착각을 불러 일으킬 정도의 멋진 풍경을 보여줬습니다.
🦀 생생게장백반: 밥도둑의 원조, 게장 정식 맛보기 그렇게 그렇게 거제도에서의 삼일을 마치고 집으로 향하기 전, 저희는 거제에서의 잊지 못할 점심을 경험하고자 열심히 포털을 검색하였습니다. 그리고 찾아낸 식당이 생생게장백반 고현점. 식당에 들어서니 반갑게 맞이하시는 남자 사장님의 음성에 기분이 좋아졌고, 간장게장도 정말 맛있었지만, 게장백반 무한리필에 함께 나온 볼뽈락구이는 정말 아삭아삭, 고소하고 담백한 맛으로 저희 가족 모두 이구동성으로 맛있음을 외친 식사였습니다.(맛있는 식사에 제가 n포털에 작년 9월 추석에 작성한 리뷰의 조회수가 현재 1만4천회에 이를 만큼 사람들이 많이 검색하는 식당입니다.)
☕ 짹짹커피: 여행의 마무리, 분위기 좋은 카페에서 여유 한 잔 맛있는 간장게장과 볼뽈락구이로 배를 채운 뒤, 우리 가족이 거제 여행의 마무리를 위해 방문한 곳은 거제짹짹커피였습니다. 이곳은 특이하게도 예전에 농협 창고였던 공간을 개조하여 카페로 운영하는 곳이었는데 외관은 창고같이 투박한 모습이었으나, 안으로 들어서니 단순하면서도 운치있는 인테리어가 묘하게 현대적인 풍경을 자아내는 카페였습니다. 커피 또한 정통 나폴리식 에스프레소바를 지향하는 카페답게 커피의 맛과 풍미 역시 상당히 좋은 평을 받고 있는 카페였습니다.(제가 검색해서 방문한 곳이기에 와이프에게 격한 칭찬을 받았습니다.)
✨ 거제도 여행을 마치며
이번 소소한 발걸음은 지금으로부터 9개월 전인 2024년 추석의 거제도 여행 이야기입니다. 소소한 발걸음 작성을 위해 9개월 전의 사진을 열어보니 지금이라도 짐을 싸고 다시 가보고 싶을 정도로 소소한 맛과 즐거움으로 가득했던 여행이었습니다. 2박 3일의 발걸음 치고는 다녀온 곳이 적다고 느끼실 수도 있으나, 당시에는 많이 다니지 말고 충분히 쉬다 오자는 가족들의 의견으로 숙소에서 멀리 가지 않고 주변을 즐기고 느끼는 일정이었기에 저희로서는 충분히 즐거웠던 여행이었습니다. 그리고 또하나 인상깊었던 것은 거제도의 상인분들이 전반적으로 너무나 친절하시다는 점입니다. 3일의 일정이면 한번쯤은 불쾌한 경험을 할 수도 있으나 단 한번의 그러한 경험 없이 즐거움으로 마무리한 거제 여행이었습니다.

🌊 Our Happy 2 Nights and 3 Days in Geojedo 🌴
Hello! This time, I'd like to talk about my humble journey, a trip to Geojedo Island. Geojedo is the second largest island in Korea, boasting beautiful natural scenery, and is also a historical site where a POW camp was established during the Korean War. Therefore, through our 2-night, 3-day humble journey in Geojedo, I hope to convey, even if indirectly, the beauty of Geoje to my subscribers. Now, let's take a step-by-step journey with me.
🗺️ What kind of place is Geojedo? Geojedo is the second largest island in Korea after Jeju Island, located on the southern coast of Gyeongsangnam-do. It is well-connected to the mainland, with the Geoga Bridge linking it to Gadeokdo in Busan to the east, and the Sin-Geoje Bridge and Geoje Bridge connecting it to Tongyeong City to the west. As of 2025, the population of Geoje City is being maintained at around 230,000. Due to its proximity to the sea, it grew alongside the shipbuilding industry, and recently, it has been strengthening its image as a tourist city based on its beautiful natural environment. Famous tourist attractions include Haegeumgang, often called the "Sea Diamond"; Oedo Botania, an exotic marine botanical garden; Windy Hill, beautiful with its cool sea breeze and windmill; and Hakdong Mongdol Beach (Pebble Beach), known for the charming sound of black pebbles rolling with the waves. Additionally, the POW Camp Historic Park, which holds the painful history of the Korean War; Maemiseong Castle, a European-style fortress built by an individual over a long period; and more recently, the Geoje Panorama Cable Car and Geoje Botanical Garden are emerging as new attractions, drawing many tourists throughout the seasons.
📜 The Historical Footprints Geojedo Embraced (Okpo Battle and POW Camp) When traveling in Geojedo, you can find traces of the Imjin War in various places. Among them, the Okpo Battle is an indispensable historical event. In 1592, the waters off Okpo in Geoje were the historic site where Admiral Yi Sun-sin's Joseon naval forces achieved their first victory against the Japanese navy. This victory gave great courage to Joseon, which had been suffering continuous defeats, and became an important turning point for the Joseon navy's victories in the Imjin War thereafter. The Okpo Great Victory Commemorative Park is the park built to commemorate this. Furthermore, it is a historically significant area that holds the pain of war, as the largest POW camp during the Korean War was established here.
🚗 [2 Nights, 3 Days]
My Humble Journey in Geojedo I stayed at Sono Calm Geoje and visited the sea in front of the resort, Mongdol Beach, the Panorama Cable Car, and Geoje Botanical Garden. Now, let's go step by step.
[Day 1 to Day 2]
🏨 Sono Calm Geoje: The Start of a Comfortable Rest. Our accommodation in Geoje was Sono Calm Geoje. It's a popular resort for Geoje trips, so I was able to book it after several attempts. Since we arrived on the evening of the first day, we finished the day with a simple walk and rest, then greeted the morning of the second day. Looking around the resort, the first floor and basement were equipped with cafes, amusement facilities, and various amenities. In front of the resort, by the sea, there was a yacht marina, a charming cafe, and a walking path right next to the sea, allowing us to enjoy the morning pleasantly. Especially, the sea at the yacht marina in front of the resort and the walking path created an incredibly beautiful scene with clear seawater and sparkling "yunseul" (shimmering water).
🍙 Tot Gimbap: Finally Tasting Geoje's Delicacy. There was a gimbap I really wanted to try before going to Geoje. It's Tot Gimbap (seaweed gimbap). I heard there are several restaurants specializing in Tot Gimbap, but I decided to try the Tot Gimbap from Ssaem Gimbap, a place I had wanted to visit for a while. On the morning of the second day, after my son and I explored the sea in front of Sono Calm early, we visited the restaurant before Ssaem Gimbap's opening time and got a number ticket in advance, so we could buy the Tot Gimbap without difficulty. Wondering what it would taste like, I returned to the resort and tasted the Tot Gimbap with my family... It was truly a gimbap that you could only taste in a place like Geojedo. The amount of "tot" (hijiki seaweed) that seemed like it would burst the gimbap, and the crunchy texture of the tot in my mouth made me understand why people say you must try it when you visit Geoje. During my stay in Geojedo, I also tried Tot Gimbap from other restaurants; there were slight differences in taste, but the rich texture and flavor of the tot were consistent.
🍩 Bbasak Kkwabaegi: A Sweet and Crispy Temptation. Now, to embark on our 본격적인 Geoje trip, although we had a delicious Tot Gimbap for breakfast, we visited Bbasak Kkwabaegi near the resort and bought two bags of kkwabaegi (twisted doughnuts) in case we got hungry while traveling. I had searched online and found that it had quite a few good reviews for being delicious. Thinking, "It might be tasty, but a kkwabaegi is just a kkwabaegi," we got in the car, and in less than ten minutes, our family was holding empty kkwabaegi bags. Ah, if I had known it was this savory and delicious, I would have bought more... With that regret, we licked our lips and started moving.
🏖️ Geoje Mongdol Beach: Harmony of Round Pebbles and Wave Sounds. While heading to the Panorama Cable Car, Mongdol Beach appeared on our right. I thought, "We're in Geojedo, we can't just pass by its famous Mongdol Beach!" so we got off immediately! We headed to Mongdol Beach. As its name suggests, unlike typical sandy beaches, the sight of black, smooth pebbles filling the beach was truly exotic. The sound of the waves was also different from that on a sandy beach; it sounded like pebbles rolling, which was pleasant to hear.

🚠 Geoje Panorama Cable Car and Observatory: A Magnificent View of Geoje from the Sky. We finally arrived at the Panorama Cable Car station. There were two types of cabins, regular and crystal, so we booked the crystal cabin with a transparent floor. My curiosity about the difference between the two cabins was brief, as the crystal cabin that arrived immediately had a transparent floor, as if it were open. After boarding the cabin and feeling a moment of fear, the view through the transparent floor was both dizzying and beautiful, a truly remarkable sight. We gathered our feet for photos and earnestly tried to capture the beautiful surrounding scenery for about five minutes.
Finally, the view of Geoje's sea from the observatory was simply breathtaking. At first, due to the cloudy weather, I was worried we might only see a hazy sea, but as the strong wind blew away the clouds that obscured our view... Wow! That was the only exclamation that came out as the brilliantly blue sky and sea unfolded before us. This is the sea of Geoje... It was truly a beautiful landscape.
🐟 Geoje Unga Hoetjip: A Dinner Feast Full of Freshness. Leaving behind the beautiful scenery of Yunseul Observatory, we welcomed the evening of our second day in Geoje. Thinking we should visit a delicious raw fish restaurant since we were in Geoje, we searched for one and found Unga Hoetjip, not far from our accommodation. According to maps and portals, it had good reviews for the freshness and taste of its raw fish, so we visited Unga Hoetjip without hesitation. The raw fish and seafood we had for dinner did not disappoint our expectations and delivered the flavors and tastes of the Geoje sea perfectly. Ah... so full....
[Day 3]
🌿 Geoje Botanical Garden (Jungle Dome): Diving into an Exotic World of Green! The third day, our last in Geoje, dawned. What about breakfast on the third day? Following everyone's urging, we decided to have Tot Gimbap once more. This time, we visited Jinine Bunsikjeom near Ssaem Gimbap. It was a small restaurant, but I could feel a shining pride and aura from the "Master of Living" TV show appearance banner hanging inside. And the Tot Gimbap we ate there also delivered the rich taste and texture of tot that can only be found in Geojedo. Then, feeling sad to leave Sono Calm, we looked around here and there before heading to Geoje Botanical Garden.
Geoje Botanical Garden, about a 25-minute drive from Sono Calm, caught our eye with its magnificent dome-shaped exterior. Inside, various plant groups greeted us, fully receiving the sunlight coming through the dome-shaped glass along well-maintained paths. Geoje Botanical Garden is the largest dome-shaped tropical greenhouse in Korea. Looking down at the botanical garden from the observatory in its center provided a stunning view, making one feel as if they had entered a jungle.
🦀 Saengsaeng Gejang Baekban: The Original Rice Thief, Tasting a Marinated Crab Set Meal. After finishing our three days in Geojedo and before heading home, we diligently searched online, wanting to experience an unforgettable lunch in Geoje. The restaurant we found was Geoje Saengsaeng Gejang. Upon entering the restaurant, the cheerful voice of the male owner welcoming us made us feel good. The soy-marinated crab (ganjang gejang) was truly delicious, but the grilled rockfish (bolppollak gui) that came with the all-you-can-eat gejang baekban was so crispy, savory, and light that our whole family exclaimed in unison how delicious it was. (It's a restaurant that many people search for, as my review from last September's Chuseok on 'N' portal has reached 14,000 views to date.)
☕ Jack Jack Coffee: Finishing the Trip with a Relaxing Moment at a Cafe with Great Ambiance. After filling our stomachs with delicious soy-marinated crab and grilled rockfish, the place our family visited to conclude our Geojedo trip was Geoje Jack Jack Coffee. This place was unique as it was a cafe operating in a renovated former Nonghyup (Agricultural Cooperative) warehouse. The exterior looked rough like a warehouse, but once inside, the simple yet charming interior created a strangely modern atmosphere. Befitting a cafe aiming for an authentic Neapolitan espresso bar, the taste and aroma of the coffee also received very good reviews. (Since I searched for and chose this place, I received enthusiastic praise from my wife.)
✨ Concluding My Geojedo Trip This "humble journey" story is about my Geojedo trip during the Chuseok holiday in 2024, nine months ago. Looking at the photos from nine months ago to write this post, it was a trip so full of simple tastes and joys that I feel like packing my bags and going again right now. You might feel that we didn't visit many places for a 2-night, 3-day trip, but at the time, it was our family's consensus not to travel too much and to get plenty of rest. So, it was an itinerary where we enjoyed and experienced the surroundings without going far from our accommodation, and for us, it was a thoroughly enjoyable trip. And another impressive thing was how generally kind the merchants in Geojedo were. During a three-day trip, one might expect at least one unpleasant experience, but our Geoje trip concluded with pure enjoyment without a single such incident. Lastly, the restaurants and cafes mentioned in this post were written without any sponsorship, and you may have different opinions than mine, so it would be good to do enough research beforehand.
It's a beautiful Geojedo that I want to visit again this Chuseok, and next Chuseok too.
